Etymology

'Dyd(d)a's brook', v. brōc . The first el. is an OE  pers.n. Dyd (d )a which is not recorded except in p.ns. like Didcot, Doynton and Tidenham (ii, 43, iii, 77, 264 infra ), and would be an i -mutated derivative of Dudda .
