on tores mere 11(the first el. cannot on topographical grounds be OE  torr'rocky outcrop'; it might be an AN  formTori from ON  Þórir(Feilitzen 393), but such loans are very rare in Gl,v. mere'pool', now the marshland near the Coombe Hill canal called LongPool at grid 143–870272)
