Etymology

Cobney Meadows, Cobbeney 1424 GlR, Cobney 1454FF , 1653GR 1263. 'Cobba's water-meadow', from an OE  pers.n. Cobba , cognate with OG  Cobbo , and found in such p.ns. as Cobham (K 110), etc. (cf. Tengvik 305, who notes its use as a byname in DB). v. ēg ; the meadows are low-lying and near the Severn.
