Apperley, Apperleg (a ), Apperle (e ), Apperlei (e ), Apperley (e )c. 1210 GlR, 1210–12 RBE, 1221, 1248Ass , c. 1250 GlR (p)et passim to 1587FF , Aperley , Aperlegh c. 1240 GlR, 1248FF , 1535 VE, Appurle (ie ), Appurley (e )1304 Ipm, 1378 Workset freq to 1545 LP. 'Clearing near the appletree or one used for growing such', v. apuldor , lēah , but OE  æppel-trēow is also possible as that word is sometimes reduced to Apper -, quite early, cf. Apperley (Nb 6), Apperley Bridge (YW iii, 259).
