Etymology

Probably 'farmstead frequented by larks', v. lāwerce (lāferce ), tūn .Laverstock (W 381) similarly has the reduced Laver - forms from 1255; Ekwall thinks the same el. might also be in Laverton (So), earlier Lavreton , Lawerton . Laberton is a scribal variation.
