Etymology

Caudwell Brook, on cealdwillan lace , on ða cealdan wyllan , of ðære cealdan wyllan 11 (c. 1200) KCD 1365, Cawelle broke 1559AddR . 'Cold spring', v. cald (ceald), wella , lacu 'stream'. The OE reference is from the Maugersbury charter; the spring is near the north-east corner of that parish (grid 144–210260) and the stream runs east on the Broadwell- Oddington boundary to the R. Evenlode.
