Etymology

Aston Magna, Easttune 904 ASChart xviii, Eastune 977 (11th) KCD 615, Estona 1208 Fees, 1327SR , Hangynde Aston 1282FF , Hanging (e ) Aston 1549 Pat, 1626 InqM, Aston Magna 1626 ib, 1830 M. 'East farm', v. ēast , tūn , so called from its situation in the east of the parish; it was called 'hanging' (v. hangende 'steep') because it is on a steep hillside; Magna 'great' probably to distinguish it from Aston Subedge (232supra ). The OE form from KCD 615 was identified in Wo 88 with White Ladies Aston, but Finb 90, 123 shows that the OE forms refer rather to Aston Magna.
