Cheyney 1610 ib, 1638 InqM. 'Upper farmstead', v. upp , tūn . The Cheyneys were a Wiltshire family, but a local connexion has not been established; the tithes of Upton, however, belonged to a prebend of Salisbury cathedral (Rudder 297).
