Etymology

Bassetts (6″) is Mildemet 1086 DB, Middelmad 1329AD , Middelmed 1479 ECP, Middilmade 1473 ib., Middilmade or Bassettes manoir 1488 Ipm, Middilmade alias Bassettis 1532FF , Bassettes 1594 N. 'Middle meadow.'v. mæd . The hamlet was in this parish and hundred, but the manor extended into Little Baddow, where Bassett's Wood still survives. Bassetts , from the family of Richard Basset (1304 Ipm).
