Etymology

Temple Fm is manerium templi de Hanyngfeld 1309MinAcct , Han (n )yngfeld , Han (n )yngfylde Temple 1541 LP, 1547 Pat, Temple ib.This formerly belonged to the Knights Templars . John de Templo was connected with the neighbourhood in 1248 (Ass ).In view of the mention of Ricardus serviens Templariorum apud Neuelande in Haningefeud (1277 EHR xl), an earlier name seems to have been Newland .
