Etymology

For further forms and the etymology of Theydon, v. supra 82.Garnon from the family of Ralph Gernun (1201 FF). This surname occurs in the EssDB as Greno from NFr  grenon , 'moustaches.' Both guernon and grenon still survive in Norman patois (Moisy). For the development to Garnish , cf. Garnish Hall and Gernon Bushes infra , and v. EAS xvii, 172–8, and Introd. xxxvii.
