Etymology

'Nook by the stræt,' v. healh . The street is the Roman road of which traces can be seen in old lanes near Strethall and Morley Green. It ran north-east from Braughing to Great Chesterford and beyond. The northern part is preserved in the high road which still runs north-east from Stump Cross (HM i, xxv).Cf.
