Etymology

Mouslin Wood (6″) is Mouselande 1422Rental , Mousislande 1433Ct , Mowselond (e )1517Rental , 1542Ct , Mooselande 1547Rental , Sangeat alias Mowsland 1586, Sangate filde alias Mousland 1592, Sangate Springe et Mowseland Springe t. ElizRental . 'Land overrun by field-mice,' v. mus . The lost alter- native occurs as lytylzanget 1424, (le ) Sanget (t )1426–30Ct , 1517Rental , Sengettes 1544Ct , moche Sanchett 1549, Sandgate Springe 1631Rental . These forms confirm the suggested existence of an OE  sænget , 'place cleared by burning.' Cf. Syntley (PN Wo 36–7) and St Ives (PN Sx 368). Springe is the dialectal spring , 'copse.'
