Etymology

Rockett's Cottages (6″). Cf. Rog (h )onho 1235Ass , 1240 FF, Ruwenho 1276For , Rowenho 1325Ct , 1398 Cl, 1405FF , Roughno 1367 ib., Rouenho 1371 ib., Ravenhowe 1547 Pat, Rockenhoe 1768 M. OE  (æt þǣm ) rūgan hōhe , 'at the rough ridge.' For medial ck , cf. Roffey supra 38. The final syllable was weakened, the name was made pseudo-manorial, and [rɔkəs] > [rɔkits] with an intrusive t , as in Garnetts infra 423–4.
