Etymology

'Cȳfa 's tun.' Cȳfa is not on record, but is a possible nickname derivative from OE  cȳf , 'tub, cask.' This pers. name or possibly the word cȳf used in some significant sense is found in Kiveton (PN SWY 193). For Lynton , 'flax farm,' v. lin , tun , and for Lyons v. Springfield Lyons infra 269.
