Etymology

Jarvis Hall (6″) is Jeruys hill 1594 N. Round suggested (EAS xviii, 229) that this place owed its name to Gervis de Benefete (sic) (1254). He may or may not have been of the same family as Stephen Gerveys who was assessed here in 1327 (SR ).
