Early-attested site in the Parish of Ovington

Etymology

Allbrights (local). Cf. Bello Campo Sancti Adelberti 1230 FineR, Sancta Aylbrid 1248Ass , Ethelberti 1294 FF, Belcham de Sancto Alberto 1254 ib., Bellum Campum Sancti Athelberti 1304 Ipm, (de ) Bello Campo Ethelberti 1330 Londin, Belchamp Albright 1338FF , Be (a )uchamp Albryght 1377 Cl, 1397FF , Albryght 1463 ib. This is a small chapelry of Belchamp, dedicated to St Ethelbert , which has belonged ecclesiastically to the parish of Ovington since 1473. Once a separate parish, it now survives only in “the rectory of Ovington with the chapelry of Allbrights annexed.” Cf. Newcourt ii, 456–7.
