Etymology

'North tun.' Perhaps so called because in the north of the hundred, or perhaps north of Plumtuna . v. Plunker's Green infra 153. Mandeville from the family of Ernulf de Maundevill (1251 FF). St Martin 's le Grand had land in Norton in 1068 (Cartulary f. ix).
