Etymology

'Tree-marked creek,' v. beam , fleot . Cf. The Fleet (TA).North corresponds to Little and South to Great . South Benfleet is on a creek, commonly known as Benfleet Creek. North Benfleet is on the far side of a considerable ridge and not on any stream. The parishes are not contiguous.
