Forest Hall is Folyat (te )s , Folyat (te )s Hall 1480–3 ECP, t. Eliz ChancP, Folliat alias Folyathall , Folyates Woode 1544 LP, Forest Hall 1693Deed . This is obviously a popular etymology of a manorial name derived from a family named Folyat , although no connection of such a family with the parish has been noted. Morant (i, 130) remarks “Likely from Gilbert Foliot, Bishop of London.”
