Etymology

The history of this name is dealt with s. n. Bidwell in PN Nth 222. It is a compound of OE  *byde , 'hollow, depression,' and wielle . Cf. also Bedewelle (Widford) 1280Ct , Bedwell (Ashdon) 1548 Pat, and infra 619, 623, 647.
