Etymology

Edmondsey Wood is Edwyne (s )hey (e )1291For , 1314 FF (p), 1339 Ipm, Edwinshey 1768 M, Edmondsey c. 1840 TA. 'E (a )dwin (e )'s wood,' v. (ge)hæg. For the development cf. Edmondsea infra 602 and Dedmansey Wood (PN BedsHu 142), earlier Dudewineshei . This is called Bouncers Wood (1805 O) and is clearly identical with Bourchers (Woode ) quond ' voc. Lyston parva Woode 1580Ct , Bowcers wood 1607Harl , Bursers wood alias litle Lyston 1612Ct . Cf. Bouncer's Fm infra . Edwyneshey was held in 1339 (Ipm) of John de Lyston . Cf. Listonhall Fm infra .
