Etymology
Barrowmarsh Fm (6″). Cf. Borowghmershe t. Ed 6Rental , Borrow 1570Harl , Barrow-hills , Barrowmarsh 1584 EAS xviii, Borough Hills 1740 Salmon. v. beorg , 'hill, mound.' The mounds were most probably formed of the material excavated in making large brine-pits. v. EAS xviii, 40 ff.
