Etymology

'Five hides.' One of the numerous names due to the five-hide unit of assessment, v. Mawer, PN and History 22, and VCH i, 334. For the initial v see Introd. xxxvii. Beauchamp from the family of Colin de Beauchamp (1238 FF).
