Shelforde )1553Ct , Shernold alias Barthelmew marshe 1553 Pat, West Shelverd , East Shelverd 1777 C, 1805 O. v. scylf , here used of the shelving land near the shore, and werth s. n. Labworth supra 148. The saltmarsh of Shernold adjoined Burwood in Little Wakering and once belonged to the Priory of St Bartholomew .
