Etymology

Penlan Hall. Cf. le Pandland , le Pandfeud (1235 FF) and Pandfeld (1333 HPD) in Hornchurch. The first element is probably ME  ponde . Cf. Pann Mill (PN Bk 205), and la Pande in Great Wycombe (Bk) n.d. AD i (described as a fish-pond).v. land , feld . Pandmad (1198 FF) may contain the same element.
