Holmwood is Hol (e )ne Wodhouse , Wood House 1506, 1550, Hulverwood Heath , Hulwood Heath , Hownd Wood Heath 1547– 58 EAS xiii, xx. v. holegn , 'holly,' also dial. holm . hulver is a Nf and Sf dialectal name for holly . Gepp gives the form hull for Essex.
