Etymology

Copped Hall is La Coppedehall (e )1258Waltham , 1293 Pat, Coppithall 1365 Cl, Coppedhallepark 1380 Pat. 'Peaked hall,' v. coppede , and cf. “cop or small pinnacle on the ridge or top of a house” (NED 1611). Fuller (Hist. Waltham Abbey 8–9) says that the hall had two turrets. Cf. Copshall (PN Sx 510). The original Copped Hall was in the parish of Waltham Holy Cross.
