Etymology

The first forms refer to the dairy-farm and marsh of the family of Geoffrey Perdriz (t. Ric 1HarlCh ). v. wic . In 1346 (FA) Lady Joan de Barwe held one-sixth of a knight's fee in Eastwood, formerly held by Philip Partriz . It would seem as if the family of Joan de Barwe was of local origin, taking its name from the hill or hills called in some references Berghis , Berghes .There is rising ground between the two streams on which the Hall stands, v. beorg .
