Etymology

Fouchers (6″) is Gingā 1086 DB, Genge 1288 Cl, Ginge , Gynge Puelle 1373 EAS xii, Gynge Puelle formerly held by Nicholas Foucher 1374 Cl, Gynge Puelle quam Nicholaus Foucher nuper tenuitet vocatur Fouchers 1412 FA, Ynggepuell alias Ynkpuell 1524 EAS xii, Fowcher 's Manor 1595 Lancs. For Genge , v. Margaretting infra 258.Fouchers , from the family of Henry Fitz Fulcher (1203 Cur, FF) and Warin Fitz Fucher (1224 Pat). Cf. Fouchers infra 480, and v. EAS xvii, 105. Puelle , because Gingā (doubtfully identified with Mountnessing in VCH (i, 541), but obviously, in view of the above forms, belonging here) was held in the time of Edward the Confessor (DB) by 'two free maids' (ii puellæ liberæ ).
