Etymology

'Hill-farm,' v. dun , tun . For Den - cf. s. n. Doddinghurst supra 152–3. Weylate < OE  weg -gelǣtu , 'a place where roads meet.' Cf. ffoureweylate (1445Ct ), the ffyvewaylete (t. Hy 8Survey ). It is used of the manor, town and church, though it is really applicable only to the farm of Dunton Wayletts infra .For Herwardstoke v. Stock infra 269.
