Etymology

With reference to this place, White (168) says “the ditches and brooks are noted for water cresses.” As it lies low by a stream, the name is doubtless from OE  cærsing , 'place where cress grows.' For such an ing derivative cf. Clavering infra 548.Great and Little Cressingham (Nf) lie similarly by streams.Cf. also Kresleyhath (in Cressing) c. 1300ColchA .
