Etymology

Oozedam (6″) is Ose (et Warwyke )t. Hy 8AOMB , Osedam 1777 C, Ouzeden Fm 1805 O. OE  wāse , 'mud,' is here used in the sense 'marshy land.' Warwyke is probably 'dairy-farm by the weir.' Weirs are frequently mentioned in marshland. v. wer , wic .
