Imphy Hall (6″) is Imphey (e )1276, 1297, 1323For (p), Imphey (e ) Hall 1539 LP, Ymphehall 1549 ib. This is the same name as Empty (PN Nth 210) and Emply (PN Sr 226). It is a compound of ME  impe and hay and denotes an 'enclosure made of imps (i.e. saplings or shoots).' v. impa infra 583.
