Etymology

North Staines and South Staines are Southstynkneys 1549FF , Southtyners alias Southstinnes t. Jas 1 ChancP, Northstines 1627 M, North Stane , South Stane , Staines 1777 C, 1805 O. The forms are late and corrupt, but the modern form is probably due to one Staines , its occupier in 1650 (Rochford 336).
