Etymology

Newhall is Nova Aula 1301, le Newehalle 1360 AD v, Beaulieu quondam voc. et non amplius Newhall 1523MinAcct , Beaulieu within Newhall lordship , Beaulieu alias Newhall 1536, 1538, Beaulieu Park 1538, Bewlewe 1540, Bealew 1545 LP. 'The new hall.' According to a tradition, which the above references seem to confirm, the place was re-named 'the beautiful place' by Henry VIII.
