Etymology

Buckshorns (6″) is (ye ) Bukkeshorne 1463Rental , 1509 AD v, le Buckyshorne alias Smetheshowse 1523MinAcct . The name 'buck's horn' may have been given to this place from some adornment of the house or from some fancied resemblance of the bend in the stream surrounding it to a buck's horn. Cf. Hartshorn in Laxton (Nt), Herteshorn 1256 Ipm. Cf. also ffremans alias Buckeshorne in Kelvedon (1591Ct ).
