Etymology

Perhaps 'Bæll 's hill,' with ingdun used in the same way as ingtun . Cf. Ballidon (PN Db 51) where we have the same pers. name compounded with denu . Bæll is not on independent record but is found in Bælles weg BCS 814, Balscote (O) and Balsham (C).
