Newton and Place Newton (6″) is Neuuetone , Neuton 1086 DB, Neuton (a ), Newton (a )12thMalton , 1219Ass et passim to 1543 FF, Newton (a ) iuxta Wyntringham , Newton (a ) iuxta Wintringham 13thMalton , 1332SR , Neweton (a )1155–7 YCh 1148, 1303 KF, Niwe (n )tun , Niwe (n )ton '1166, 1167 P (p), Newton near Wyntryngham als. Place Newton 1560 FF, Place Newton upon the Wold 1601 FF. 'New farm,' v. niwe , tun .William Playce was tenant here in 1285 KI, Beatrice Playce in 1297 LS, whilst a little earlier we have reference to pomerium W . de Plaz (Malton 249 d). This is an error for pomarium 'orchard.'
