Etymology

'Asgaut 's farmstead,' v. by . On the AN  spellings with continental Ans - and the others with OE  Ōs - for OScand  Ás - cf. Osgodby, PN NRY 104, and NP 14. It may be added that examples of the name with a nasalised ã occur in Danish runes (cf. DaPN 66).
