Etymology

There is evidence for an OGer  pers. name Frigdag (Förste- mann, PN 524) and there is a possibility that we may have an OE  Frigedæg in certain names in OE charters (v. PN Sr 278, 410). Here we have that name or the corresponding unrecorded OScand  Frijádagr . Hence, 'Fridag 's village,' v. þorp .
