Etymology

Implings (6″) is Limpinhul 1231 FF, Lympynhyll 1416 YI, Implyng 1563 FF, Implinge 1615 FF, Lympynghill 1605 FF. It is difficult to keep this name apart from Impnells (PN Ess 446), but both names are obscure. If we regard initial l as the OFr def. art. we may possibly have as first element an OE  *imping 'place where saplings are grown' from OE  impa 'shoot, sapling' (cf. PN Ess 583). v. hyll .
