Etymology

'Wifel 's village' from OScand  Vífill , found in DB as Wifle , a tenant TRE in Tibthorpe. v. þorp . Cf. Wilsthorpe (WRY), Wiulestorp , Wilestorp DB, Wilsthorpe (L) and Dan  Vilstrup and Vilsbæk DaSN(Sj) iii, 533. Wilsthorpe was formerly in the township of Hilderthorpe and the parish of Bridlington (Langd).
