Etymology

'Bark 's village,' v. þorp . Bark (cf. Barch DB) is from OScand  Bǫrkr , gen. Barkar . The ME spellings fluctuate between this OScand gen. form, a ME  gen. in -es and an uninflected genitive (cf. Burythorpe supra 142).
