Etymology

'Hurdle enclosure', v. *hurð, genitive pl. *hurða , + worð . Identical with Hurworth Bryan NZ 3935, hurdewurd '1197 Pipe, Hurdewrth 1242×3 Ass. The meaning is probably 'enclosure made of hurdles'.
