Etymology
Bishopton parish comprises the three townships of Bishopton in the north-east, East Newbiggin & West Newbiggin to the south and Little Stainton to the west. The soil is clay, and in 1850 there were 2,370 acres of arable to 1,522 of pasture, VCH III 213.
