Little Francis (SY 665783), Franches barn 1554 (18) Ilch , Franches , Easter Franches Close , Northern Franches Close , Franchis Drove , the Easter Close at Frances , the Wester Close at Frances 1582 (18) ib , le Franches 1620 WeyR, (Great ) Franches 1841TA , Francis 1774 Hutch1, 1811 OS, Francis 's 1795 Boswell, no doubt to be associated with la Fraunchise 1322MinAcct , la Fraunchice 1327ib which is from ME  fraunchise 'district over which the privilege of a corporation extends' (from 1486 NED), perhaps with reference to the liberty of Wyke R. & Elwell, v. ēasterra , westerra ; it probably gave name to Franchise St. in Weymouth par. supra (only just outside the old par. of Wyke R.), which has forms from 1413.
