Etymology

Named from R. Winterborne, cf. Winterborne Z. par. supra .The identification of the DB form(s) is that of Eyton 121–2 (also Fägersten 66), cf. VCHDo 3135, DBGazetteer 129, Winterborne Came 1260. The manorial affix is from Robert Clench 1232 Pat, v. tūn . For Higher Clenston & Lower Clenston , apparently to be identified with the two former manors of Winterborne Phelpston and Winterborne Nicholston in this par., v. infra , Taylor 56.
