Cockwell Cross & Cockwell Fm, Hr Cockwell (SY 397949), Cokwille 1327, Cokwoll '1332 SR, Cokwel 1340 NI all (p), Cockewill '1433HarlRoll (p), ten ' …nup ' Cokkewyllyruinos '1433ib , the estate called Cockwell 1783 Hutch3, 1811 OS, 'spring or stream frequented by cocks (of wild birds)', from cocc 2 and well(a), cf. Cockwell Coppice in Abbotsbury par. supra ; two streams rise here (springs marked 6″).
