Etymology

Hutch1, probably '(place) to the north of the town', v. bī , norðan , port 2 , although there are no traces of bī in the forms, cf. Westport Ho, Portmanmore infra ; in 1774 Hutch1 it is described as 'a small farm just without the walls of Wareham'.
